with Sarah Stephenson

Digital Talking Therapy with Sarah Stephenson, Psychological Therapist in Chichester UK

BA(Hons) MBACP (Accred) IAPT Couples Therapy

Sarah is an experienced and accredited therapist working in both the NHS and offering a private practice, with a special interest and experience in peri and post-natal therapy. The blend of being an accredited therapist providing individual and couple therapy, along with extensive experience, and being a parent of two young children allows Sarah to create a bespoke and well trusted offer of peri and post-natal support for one or both partners to explore their transitions into and throughout parenthood.

Improving mental health is at the heart of Sarah's work which has nurtured an interest, excitement, and honor of working with people and their life stories, this is seen in her approach and interactions with each individual she works with. The offer of private practice is open to all and working in the NHS allows Sarah the stark awareness of the reality of waiting lists and the importance of accessing support once mood, wellbeing and coping is altered from what is usual.

While therapy sessions are as unique as each persons life story there are some themes, such as creating a beginning (consulting, creation of goals, timeline of difficulties) Middle (working phase) and End (summary of process, changes, and future coping). Every step of the way Sarah will tirelessly work to support, understand, and give back self awareness for you to process all difficulties, and to help allow you to feel more in control of your emotions and responses in the future.

Therapy guides and prompts you to understand your own feelings. It is a chance to talk without barriers, boundaries, advice and judgement. Therapy provides change and recovery from the difficulties you are experiencing, and self awareness is the very process of protecting your ability to engage in healthy relationships, achieving work and family demands.

Therapy is especially useful when we enter into transitional phases of life (growth, change or loss) which could have a negative impact on other areas of life or relationships. You might notice your mood lower or anxiety increased beyond what you feel is usual or manageable.

Areas of Practice

Postnatal Therapy

The merge of experience, training and being a parent to young children gives Sarah a strong empathy of transitions, demands and the need for self-care and awareness toward the movement from overwhelmed to resilient.

Together we will unravel the turmoil of feelings, hormones and demands, along with processing the impact of idealised versus reality, allowing increased self awareness to make changes to your coping and reduce worry, anxiety and low mood. Processing this life transition offers choice to respond helpfully and healthily for you and your new family.

Postnatal Couples Therapy

This is a unique blend and focus of supporting couples to build upon their relationship and notice, nurture and embrace the layer of parenting within the new dynamics to best support one another and form robustness

Parenting can have multiple demands and Sarah remains committed to helping parents through any difficulties, including self-care, negotiating exhaustion, recovery, and change, and restricted time alone - impacting usual ways to connect. Smoothing these for parents supports you to be the best for one another, yourself and your new family

Couples Therapy for Depression

Accessing therapy allows couples to notice changes, and create goals. Within session couples will work to support one another with renewed awareness of communication, empathy, and togetherness. This realigns old strengths and new skills and awareness, to work through problems, ruptures and emotions to reform as you once were.

Individual Therapy

Providing you a space separate from friends and family to share what is familiarly not shared with loved ones - to avoid shame, judgement, advice and the feeling of not being fully heard. Allowing yourself to access focused and trusted support - which will hold, validate and enrich you - can be the self care you may have needed for a long time.
